Abstract
The purpose of this project is to develop a more accessible solid pill container for the elderly, blind, and the visually impaired. In addition to improving upon the physical dimensions and accessibility, the container reminds its users to take their medication at customizable times. The significance of this project is to provide a lower-cost solution for a pill container for the blind or visually impaired and the elderly that solves the detrimental problem of forgetting the medication or taking the wrong date or time. Some features that combat these problems include raised surfaces on the lids of the compartment lids to differentiate them, opposed to braille, which some may not be proficient in. Another raised surface is also incorporated at the bottom left comer of the pill container for orientation management. Each compartment also has detachable separation barriers, allowing users to divide compartments into halves or thirds based on dosing requirements. The back of the container allows space for electronics, batteries, and a compartment for as-needed medication. The reminder system decreases medication errors that may come with users having multiple prescriptions or hurried lifestyles. Overall, the container and its features allow its users to have greater autonomy, safety, and increasing medication compliance as well as decreasing medication errors in their daily medication intake while maintaining affordability and ease of use.
