D.U.Quark
About This Journal
Our Mission: The purpose of the D.U.Quark is to create opportunities for Duquesne University students to communicate and peer review STEM topics for broader audiences. This student organization writes, peer reviews, and accepts student-written research articles, news articles, and creative works related to the sciences. The D.U.Quark also aims to engage all members of the Duquesne community in an interdisciplinary conversation about research locally and globally.
In physics, a quark is an indivisible particle of matter that combines to form different particles, such as protons and neutrons. They are bound together by four forces: electromagnetism, gravity, and unspecified weak and strong forces. Quarks are fundamental in nature and come in 6 different flavors: up, down, strange, charm, top, and bottom. Physics is fundamental to all the sciences, making it the perfect starting point for our publication. As a student-run STEM research journal, the D.U.Quark is excited to put our personal “spin” on scientific research.
