Abstract
This dissertation deals with the ethical reciprocity between social responsibility and human dignity in global health. The need and rationale for the research topic are as follows. There is extensive literature on health care ethics, particularly in the area of human dignity and social responsibility. Nonetheless, there is little discussion of two distinctive features around these topics: the inherent ethical reciprocity between them; and the significance of this reciprocity from the perspective of global health. This dissertation engages these distinctive features to shed new light on these paramount issues. Hence, the title of the dissertation is, “The Ethical Reciprocity between Human Dignity and Social Responsibility in Global Health.” The reciprocity between human dignity as individual-focused and social responsibility as community-focused weaves through the dissertation to address the needs related to a variety of topics as discussed below. The perspective of global health focuses especially on Africa to highlight this emerging reciprocity in the world’s fastest-growing continent.
