Abstract
In planning this recital, I wanted to select material that would accurately portray who I was as a musical individual. I came to the conclusion that the best way to accomplish this was to select a few of my favorite pieces of music, choose pieces that are associated with my favorite jazz trumpeters, and include a few of my own compositions and arrangements. The trumpeters I chose to represent in this recital are Woody Shaw ("Seventh Avenue"), Booker Little ("We Speak"), and Kenny Dorham ("Punjab"). Each of these trumpeters has had a major impact on my musical conception, and I chose these particular pieces as vehicles to express my own character as it has been influenced by them. "We Speak" and "Capra Black" have long been two of my favorite pieces of music. I can clearly remember the first time I heard each of these pieces; including these compositions was essential in accurately representing myself musically.
