Abstract

Dr. Naomi Zack is a widely respected American philosopher whose work centers on ethics, political philosophy, the philosophy of race, and the history of philosophy. Having earned her Ph.D. at Columbia University, she is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the University of Oregon and is Professor of Philosophy at Lehman College in the City University of New York (CUNY).

She is the Editor of the recently published Oxford Handbook of Philosophy and Race (Oxford University Press, 2017), and is also the author of ten monographs, including the following: The American Tragedy of COVID-19: Social and Political Crises of 2020 (Rowman and Littlefield, 2021); White Privilege and Black Rights: The Injustice of US Police Racial Profiling and Homicide (April Rowman and Littlefield, 2015); and The Ethics and Mores of Race: Equality after the History of Philosophy (Rowman and Littlefield, 2015); and Ethics for Disaster, (Rowman and Littlefield, 2009).

In 2021 Prof. Zack joined the distinguished list of American philosophers to be invited to give the John Dewey Lecture at the Pacific Division Meeting of the American Philosophical Association, and she is currently writing a book entitled Democracy for Oxford University’s “Very Short Introduction” book series.
