Concussion Activity
Michelle Valkanas
This two part activity is designed to raise awareness about the risk of concussions and the symptoms to look for. The purpose of the first activity is to explore the effects of an impact to your head and how safety equipment, like helmets, can protect you. This will be demonstrated by using a sensor in a mannequin head and measuring velocity of impact. The purpose of the second activity is to demonstrate the symptoms of a concussion using concussion goggles. Wearing the concussion goggles students will test their hand-eye coordination, visual perception, and balance. This will allow the students to more easily identify concussion symptoms in the future.

Density Rainbows
Michelle Valkanas
Density Rainbows is a hands-on activity that allows participants to explore density. Using household liquids (e.g.honey, dish soap, oil, etc.), participants layer a container with liquids from most dense to least dense. For an added layer of fun, participants can drop different solid items into the rainbow to see where they stop (i.e. how their density compares).
