Abstract
John Sergeant (1779-1852) was a leading Philadelphia lawyer in Philadelphia in the first half of the nineteenth century. He served in various civic activities, served as a member of the House of Representatives in seven Congresses, and had a distinguished legal career in both the Federal and Pennsylvania courts. This article will review his life and work.
