Abstract

The purpose of this project, in collaboration with Whitetail Springs Memory Care Community, is to encourage consistent attendance and engagement among residents and staff in community activities, thereby enhancing residents’ well-being through greater meaningful engagement. This was done by assessing communication gaps between the clinical and activities teams, developing an educational infographic and scheduling template, and conducting an interactive presentation introducing these deliverables. This project was facilitated by observing current engagement and communication procedures at Whitetail Springs. After observations, brief interviews were conducted with the Life Enrichment Director and the Health Services Director to understand where each team needs support to improve engagement. A literature review was conducted on the benefits of engagement for individuals with dementia. This project led to the development and delivery of structured engagement tools for Whitetail Springs, including an educational infographic on engaging people with a dementia diagnosis, a scheduling template for activity engagement, and a discussion with the management team that led to the development of staff activities. These tools were designed to address communication and workflow gaps between the clinical and activities teams and to support more consistent staff participation in activities. The intended impact of these deliverables is to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration between the clinical and activities teams and to encourage greater meaningful resident engagement over time. This project addresses a workflow-level gap in a memory care facility. The intervention aims to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration to operationalize person-centered care and support frontline healthcare workers with structured tools.
